DIE STIEHLBLÜTEN
literary and musical programmes, with humour – performed in German
„There must be more to it than this!“
Something along those lines is what three figures from the Zwickau region were thinking in 2017 about their musical lives so far. Something was still missing from the thoroughly remarkable careers of Marek Arnold, Gerd Stiehler and Thomas Zach. And so the idea arose to widen their range with satirical musical programmes, which have now been going down very well on stage for more than eight years.
Looking for subjects, they came across an enormous number of connections between everyday matters and their musical counterparts. The programmes examine the relationships between people and birds, teachers and pupils, life and death, and interpret them with a sure touch and with the audience taking part. Alongside a new Advent programme („Stiehlvolle Weihnachten“) there is currently also a forestry-themed programme called „Von Jägern und Gejagten“, a best-of programme and the new programme „Gaumenfreuden und Ohrenschmaus“ to be seen live.
The STIEHLBLÜTEN appear regularly at the Villa Mocc in Zwickau, Schloss Waldenburg, the MIRA MAR and the Pelzmühle in Chemnitz, the Glänzelmühle in Waldenburg, the Stadthalle Meerane, the mining museum in Oelsnitz, the Kale in Niedersteinbach and the Quellenhof in Garbisdorf – and of course at your place at any time!

Our programmes
New programme: "Gaumenfreuden und Ohrenschmaus“
When words crackle and notes sparkle, they invite you to the table once more:
DIE STIEHLBLÜTEN with their fifth programme, all about eating and drinking. Here there is not only reading and music-making – here something is served up!
Literary delicacies meet musical treats.
Whether subtle poetry, biting prose or lively sonic dishes – this evening moves elegantly between banquet and fast food, between a fine vintage and an off-colour toast.
Sometimes sweet, sometimes hearty, sometimes gloriously unappetising – but always with a wink and guaranteed without regrets the next morning.
A programme for everyone who knows that real joy in life goes through the ear and the stomach – and sometimes through the diaphragm.
So: take a seat and prick up your ears – second helpings expressly permitted!
Stiehlvolle Weihnachten (Advent programme)
No sooner has the new year begun than the festival of lights is upon us again. Soon there will be sparkling Christmas decorations to admire, the radios will be churning out Christmas songs by Wham or Mariah Carey, and the air will smell of freshly baked biscuits. The feast of love is approaching!
But hold on!
To help everyone keep their senses during a Christmas season that is usually anything but contemplative, the „Stiehlblüten“ set about laying a little satire, musical and literary works, tips and tests and the necessary dose of gallows humour under the artificial Christmas tree.
Positioned mostly above, but occasionally below Father Christmas’s belt, the trio of Gerd Stiehler (texts / vocals), Marek Arnold (keys, saxophone) and Thomas Zach (guitar, bass, vocals) would like to shorten the wait until the collective gorging with their „stiehlvoll“ contributions on the subject.
BLÜTENLESE - sti(e)hlsicher aus 8 Jahren ausgewählt
BLÜTENLESE – sti(e)hlsicher aus 8 Jahren ausgewählt
Eight years, four programmes and countless wrong notes –
the Stiehlblüten pick their best numbers and tie them into a bouquet of literary and musical absurdities.
Whether people, birds, teachers, death in leisure shoes or the noble art of hunting – everything here is mercilessly sent up.
Look forward to an evening that does not explain the madness of everyday life but sets it to music with relish!
Von Jägern und Gejagten
In their programme “Von Jägern und Gejagten” the Stiehlblüten turn to a subject they understand nothing whatsoever about, which puts them in good company with many of this country’s political office-holders.
The musical frame reaches from hunting songs and hunting calls to pink hunting animals and skirt-chasers – and of course a murder ballad cannot be missing either. Alongside rules of conduct in the forest, fairy tales are given a modern reading, poems on the subject are recited and the diplomatic hunt is compared East and West.
There is one restriction for our audience, however: hunting weapons brought along must be handed in at the cloakroom. Anyone who fails to comply will be shot.
Der Tod auf Latschen
In their most recent programme „Der Tod auf Latschen“ the STIEHLBLÜTEN turn to a subject that will concern all of us at some point and in some way.
There is no end of things to discuss: love and death in close company, gems of German poetry interpreted in Saxon dialect, morbid yet cheerful sayings meant to make parting bearable, and of course musical contributions that invite you to sing along.
As on a ghost train, you never know what will happen during the evening, so a visit should be dared with courage and a smile – it is worth it!
Von Lehrern und Schülern
Having successfully dealt with people and birds in numerous events, the members of the STIEHLBLÜTEN want to make their life confessions in this programme.
Under the motto „Von Lehrern und Schülern“, bizarre situations from everyday school life are recounted, teachers and pupils are classified, (n)ostalgic memories are indulged, and – as the current state of the Saxon school system demands – recruitment criteria for new teachers are presented.
There is much to look forward to in the many musical contributions, which also deal with school.
- Marek Arnold (saxophone, recorder, keyboards)
- Dr Gerd Stiehler (presentation, vocals)
- Thomas Zach (bass, vocals)
Von Menschen unnd V(v)ögeln
Under the motto “Von Menschen und (V)vögeln”, connections between human and feathered bipeds are revealed in humorous fashion.
Bizarre topics such as „the human as bird“, „the bird as human“, „dramatic matters of human and bird“, „human and bird as class warriors“ and, of course, later in the evening, „intimate matters from the world of humans and birds“ are brought into wild connection and enriched musically.
