Toxic Smile
January 1996 – April 2018
22 years of progressive rock music
Toxic Smile was a progressive metal band from Leipzig, founded in January 1996 by keyboardist and saxophonist Marek Arnold and drummer Daniel Zehe.
The band stood for progressive rock in the classic sense – expansive song structures, demanding instrumental passages and memorable melodies between rock and metal, carried by Larry B.’s distinctive voice. Toxic Smile’s greatest success came with the album „M.A.D.“ (2001), released through the major label BMG in South Korea: the single „Daydream“ entered the Korean charts and a promotional tour of South Korea followed.
In the years that followed, the band released—among other works—*RetroTox Forte* (2004), the unplugged orchestral DVD *…in classic extension* (2006), *I’m Your Saviour* (2011), and the album *7* (2013).
2015 saw the release of their final studio recording, the concept album *Farewell*—a single piece lasting nearly 43 minutes—before the band dissolved in 2018 following their farewell concert at the Artrock Festival in Reichenbach.
Throughout these years, Marek Arnold shaped Toxic Smile’s sound on keyboards and saxophone, while simultaneously helping to shape the German progressive music scene through projects such as Seven Steps to the Green Door and CYRIL.
